Last week Umbrella was pleased to be represented at the Issues of Substance conference in Vancouver by Evan, Rebecca, Lance and Logan.
The Issues of Substance conference brings together diverse partners to share experiences with substance use, new research, best practices, emerging trends and issues, treatment and prevention initiatives, and other innovations in the field that affect the health and safety of people living in Canada.
Mental health, addiction, and recovery are complex challenges confronting communities across our country.
It is critical for Umbrella Society to continually participate in the constantly evolving conversations surrounding the people, the challenges, and the solutions that are ultimately necessary to save lives and reduce the number of people suffering from substance use disorder.
Our team universally agreed that the event was extremely informative, exploring the variety of challenges with substance use from region to regions and Province to Province across Canada, but also inspiring with several indigenous keynote speakers and story tellers who shared moving stories about their experiences in Residential schools and life in Northern Canadian Communities.
We certainly have some big hills to climb and serious challenges to address as a community, conferences like the 2023 Issues of Substance will certainly help us to uncover the paths we will need to navigate our way forward and to support our communities most vulnerable successfully.
